Museum Hotel's restaurant and bar, Hippopotamus is located on level three of the Harbour Wing and enjoys views of Wellington's beautiful harbour.

The French influenced cuisine is prepared by award winning Executive Chef Laurent Loudeac.

Although classically trained in the traditional French method, Laurent has an open attitude to food and aims to please. The atmosphere is welcoming and almost every table has a view of the beautiful harbour.

An Audience with Laurent.

Be in the audience of TVNZ’s Good Morning show to watch Hippopotamus’s talented chef, Laurent Loudeac’s live cooking segment.
The event begins at the hotel with a scrumptious morning tea prior to being transported to Avalon Studios to be entertained and inspired by Laurent’s creative cooking and flair for excellence. You will then be transported back to the hotel for a guided tour of the hotel’s art collection followed by lunch at Hippopotamus.
This is a one off opportunity to experience the thrill of live television production. Numbers are limited, book now to avoid disappointment.

Magnificent Martinborough wines from the cellars of Ata Rangi, Dry River and Martinborough Vineyard will be complemented by a 6 course set menu by Hippopotamus’s Laurent Loudeac.
Guest speakers from all 3 vineyards will talk you through the wines and introduce you to some treasures from their cellars.

Open 24 hours a day, the lobby is an inviting place to enjoy a coffee or wine while either just relaxing or taking in the artwork.

Live music plays in the lobby each Friday (except public holidays) February to December, 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
